PRINCIPAL’S
NOTES:
1) As
a result of the technology in schools levy, seventy-four new computers
have arrived at Salmon Bay School.
A big thank you to the fabulous group of volunteers who, under
the guidance of our outstanding librarian, Ginny, unpacked and set-up
all the computers this past weekend!
2) The
Alliance for Education is hosting community meetings around the city
to gather feedback relating to our school district’s professional development
early release days that have been a part of the 2002-2003 school year
calendar. Our school is one of twenty-seven that will
be hosting a meeting. The meeting
is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29th, 2003 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
NO SCHOOL JANUARY 14th - In order
to give input to the Washington State Legislature as they prepare to
make extensive cuts to create a balanced 2003-2004 State Budget, the
Seattle Education Association (SEA) has created an opportunity for Seattle
School District professionals and families to travel to Olympia on January
14th for a rally in support of maintaining our state’s education funding. As a result, there will be no school on Wednesday,
January 14, and the school year will be extended by one day in June.
For more information see page 3.
EVENING LANTERN
EVENT REMINDER! This
is a lovely event you will not want to miss, however, it is important
that families stay together and oversee their child’s lantern safety.

PRINCIPAL’S
NOTES: The school choice period
for elementary-age children is just around the corner. As I’m sure you remember, elementary tours
start in January and families select their choices in February. One of the best ways to market our school is
simply by word of mouth. Thanks
to all of you who continue to share information about our school with
potentially interested new families.

received a bright yellow ‘Opt-In’ form giving you information about the
new Monday Bulletin E-mail system we will be implementing in January. We are hoping to send the Monday Bulletin via
email to as many families as possible to save both copier and paper costs.

FALL BOOKFAIR
WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! What an incredibly
supportive school community we have! Our fall book fair was, bar none,
our most successful book fair ever - over $6,500! This means about $900
for our library. Of course, the
book fair success would not be possible without the many hours of time
spent by volunteers, especially Maggie Chillingworth, Nancy Gruber,
and others too numerous to name here.
My sincere thanks to all of you.
It is such a privilege to work at a school with such a supportive
parent community.--Ginny
NEW LOCATION
FOR TUES/THURS K-2 SPANISH CLASS: it
will meet in room 104.
MANY STUDENT
LUNCH ACCOUNTS HAVE FALLEN BEHIND! Because
of new FDA rules about lunch service, it is very difficult for Toni to
give meals to students whose accounts are in arrears. Please help make her job easier by keeping
your student’s lunch accounts up-to-date.
If you have questions about the status of your student’s account,
please leave Toni a message at
252-1734. Thanks.
SEEKING SEVERAL
VOLUNTEERS TO ATTEND SCHOOL BOARD and/or Alternative School Alliance month
meetings. The last couple of months
have reminded us that we must stay abreast of what’s happening at the
District level of our school community.
It would be helpful to have one or two people who would be willing
to attend the monthly meetings of these two groups. Board meetings are always on Wednesdays; The Alliance meetings vary.
Interested? Contact Nancy Gruber at 252-1732 or ngruber7@aol.com

ENRICHMENT
FEE FORM ATTACHED! At the December 3rd Parent Board Meeting a half-yearly
report was given showing the participation
statistics to date for this year’s EF program.
This report showed that we still have not received information
forms from a whopping 31% of our families.
We need to hear from everyone! This information is necessary for
us to create and maintain a realistic budget for field trip, outdoor education,
and classroom support spending this school year.
Questions? Call Nancy Gruber
252-1732 or email ngruber7@aol.com
CAN’T REMEMBER

ORDER SCRIP GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR THE HOLIDAYS!
If you wish
to purchase scrip certificates as gifts - or to use yourself - over Winter
Break,
please be sure

Orders received
by the 14th will be back in time for you to pick up before the break begins.
USED BRICK
- FIELD PROJECT FUNDRAISING: Need
some used brick for a home-improvement project? We still have about 600
cleaned used bricks left. The
suggested donation is 50 cents per brick (more or less).
All funds collected go toward our field improvement project. Call Nancy G. 252-1732 with questions.
EVERYONE SHOULD
HAVE RECEIVED A FUND RAISING LETTER FOR THE FIELD PROJECT:
If you are deciding about end-of-year
tax deductible donations, please consider this project. Once completed, this will be an enormous improvement
for our school. For Physical Education,
general fitness, and plain old fun it’s hard to beat a nice playfield,
track and basketball court!
SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM WILL CLOSE from Dec 17
through 25 including no book drops and no access to online catalog.

DID YOU
RECEIVE YOUR K-5 SCHOOL DIRECTORY?
All students
were given a K-5 school directory last week.
Students with multiple households were given one copy for each
parent/guardian home. If you
did not receive your school directory OR if you have noticed an error
in your listing, please contact Nancy Gruber 252-1732.
We will publish
corrections in future Monday bulletin editions.
Many thanks
to Shawn and Carita’s classes for the wonderful fishy drawing that adorn
the cover.
BUDGET NEWS:
SALMON RUN
TALLY TO DATE: $2,040. Although we fell considerably short of
the $7,500 we had hoped to raise on
this event, we DID have lots of fun.
We’ll just have to put a little more effort into our fabulous SPRING
AUCTION to keep our budget balanced!
Hmmmm. I’m going to start thinking right now of some
great donation items!!
HURRAH! WE RAISED $4,804.00 IN OUR CASH RAFFLE!!!
Thanks to Cyndy
Israel for printing those tickets, to Anne Level for organizing the raffle
and a
huge round
of applause to all the classroom reps for coordinating classroom sales!
