Lunch Menu.
Principal’s Note: 1) It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Spaghetti Feed last Friday evening. I want to give a huge thank you to Marie Kirsch, Bill Falk & Megan Ratcliffe who organized the event, all of the volunteer dishwashers, servers and decorators, everyone who has been working so hard to help run the book fair, and the adult marimba band!
2) We are in the process of updated the safe snack list. If you have any suggestions, please forward them to me, jclark@seattleschools.org, or your classroom teacher. Secondly, if you have any questions about the policy, please ask school staff.
Volunteer Coordinator’s Notes: What a great turn out for the Spaghetti Feed
Dinner. Many thanks to Great Harvest
Bakery in Ballard, Trader Joe’s in the University District, Central Market in
Shoreline and Albertsons in Greenlake for their generous donations. Please try and shop at these stores and
thank them for their continued support.
Also, a BIG BIG THANKYOU to all of the volunteers who helped out
during, before and after the event. You
all did a tremendous job and help make this a very successful event!!
Book Fair thanks: Many
thanks to Sheri Feld for once again organizing the Fall Book Fair.
Book Fair:
Last week’s book fair was the most successful yet! Although
the official tally is not in yet, the preliminary count looks great. Stay tuned
for the final results as they come in. Thanks to all the many, many people who
supported the book fair by purchasing books, both for themselves and as gifts
to teachers and the library. A very special thanks to the more than 45
volunteers who staffed, set up, organized, and packed up the book fair. What an
amazing group of people! Be sure and ask our librarians, Ginny and Linda, about
the many new books that they are now able to get for the library thanks to your
generosity. See you all again for the spring all school book fair.
Volunteer Needed: We are looking for one or two
volunteers to help out with the Safety/Security Committee at
Salmon Bay. It would only require a commitment
of a few hours during the year so if you are interested, please contact Marie
Kirsch @ 252-1732 or email mdkirsch@seattleschools.org.
**Parent Education Committee: Make plans to
attend our next parent education evening on Monday December 13th at 7pm:
"How does creative play relate to academic success?" with Seattle's
own renowned educator Betsy Weill. Everyone is talking about our last
education evening! Make sure you are a part of this one!!
Don't forget to secure your childcare with Coho Kids Time at (206) 297-7764 for
Dec 13th. Please contact committee chair Cheri Constantino with any
questions at (206) 417-0405 or CLMCinAZ@aol.com.

Salmon Bay scrip comes in larger denominations than the mittens request
so you can either leave cash or a check for the amount of the gift wish, and
they will be transferred to gift card(s) later. Leave donations with Marie Kirsch – Volunteer
Coordinator or Linn – the Family Support Worker no later
than December 15th, so that they can be distributed before the end
of school. Thank you for supporting
this worthy program. Call Lisa Dunn @
780-0148 for more information.
Important Lunch Information: Families that use the "lunch credit system" (meaning that you buy credit for more lunches by sending in a check) need to know that meals may no longer be charged to your account if your credit runs out, Currently all balances due need to be paid in full. Please make every effort to carefully calculate when you must send in more money for your child's lunch. Our Cafeteria Manager, Beauty, reminds students when their accounts are low - but it seems unrealistic for them to always remember to get that message to their parent/guardian. Thank you for your help in keeping the lunchroom accounts up to date.

Direct Giving Campaign: I am pleased to report that as of this past Friday, our 2004-2005 Direct Giving Campaign has raised $5445.00 through the generous donations of families in our elementary community! People have opened their hearts (and their checkbooks!) to help support the programs that mean so much to all of our children! We are on our way to our goal of $15.000! I am so proud of our community for stepping up to the plate and giving. I invite those of you who have not yet made a donation to do it now! Only through the support of every member of our community can we hope to reach our goal! If you need a new form, just let me (Sharon Muza, muza@serv.net, 297-6950) know, and I will be happy to resend you one! Heck, I can even email it to you! Watch our progress as our salmon swim upstream to our goal in the front lobby! Thank you in advance for taking a minute now, to add your gift to our total collected! And remember, if your company matches donations to non-profits, we benefit twice as much from your donation.
Salmon Bay Sweatshirts! We are selling Salmon Bay sweatshirts in Red and Black both
hooded and crew neck. Prices are $15.00
and $18.00 (XL & XXL) for crew neck and $18.00 and $22.00 (XL & XXL)

make it available in the school library. Our next evening addresses honoring
the creative learning environment that we value so much here at Salmon
Bay. It will be Monday, December 13th and is entitled "How does
creative play relate to academic success?" with Seattle's own renowned
educator Betsy Weill. This part of the series is equally important.
We'll also be scheduling a follow-up session from last Monday's meeting in

Food Drive Wrap Up and Thanks - We collected 1,232 pounds of FOOD and personal/household
ITEMS for both our school and city communities. Many families will benefit from
our generosity. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT CONTRIBUTED - including all of
the students that spent recess and lunch time weighing, organizing and labeling
the donations, Hilary's 5th period class that moved all food and then separated
it into categories, Kristen's Homeroom class that made fabulous posters that
were hung around the building by our TAs, my own TA that hung small signs
around the school, students that collected the food from classrooms, three
girls that artistically created gift cards for each food box, the wonderful
parents that spent time carefully choosing and packing boxes for families, and
finally to those of you, parents and staff that delivered the boxes. Our
tradition of giving and receiving support continues through our cooperative
efforts and work. YOU ARE GREAT AND EACH DESERVE A HUGE
THANKS FOR MAKING OUR FOOD DRIVE ANOTHER SUCCESS
Important Lunch Information: Families that use the "lunch credit system" (meaning that you buy credit for more lunches by sending in a check) need to know that meals may no longer be charged to your account if your credit runs out, Currently all balances due need to be paid in full. Direct Giving Campaign: A huge thank you to all the families that
have already been so kind and generous with a donation to our 2004-2005 Direct Giving Campaign. We have even had thoughtful
grandparents who have made a donation in the name of their grandchildren!
Others have helped us on the way to our goal by providing information
from their employer who was willing to match their generous
donations! We still need the support of our entire community if we are to
reach $15,000. I believe we can do it, and invite you to watch our
progress as the salmon swim upstream towards this goal in the front
lobby. Each fish represents a family from our community who has
contributed, and our final goal lies at the end of the stream! Help us to
get there by joining those who have already donated! Need more
information or have a question?, contact Sharon Muza at 206-297-6950 or muza@serv.net
