MIDDLE SCHOOL

ATTENTION ALL MIDDLE SCHOOLERS:  Starting last Wednesday, Melanie’s homeroom has once again begun Operation Chicken! Because of new restriction due to chronic allergies, we will not be serving some of last year’s favorites; such as bubble gum, tootsie pops, and other snacks that exceed the sugar and fat limits. However we will be selling alternative healthy snacks including satsumas, fruit leather, fruit gushers, and possibly licorice. More might be added as additional donations and ideas come to us.

All of the profits made will contribute to both the Operation Chicken projects. Both of these projects will serve to help less-fortunate families  in third world countries. Our goal for this year in profits for Operation Chicken is $400+ (or 20 flocks of chickens). Any additional money will go toward other larger livestock. If you wish to make a donation either in food or cash, you may bring it to Melanie’s homeroom--room 317.

We hope you will all contribute!

ALL SCHOOL BOOK FAIR – Thanks!

Last week’s book fair was the most successful yet! Although the official tally is not in yet, the preliminary count looks great. Stay tuned for the final results as they come in. Thanks to all the many, many people who supported the book fair by purchasing books, both for themselves and as gifts to teachers and the library. A very special thanks to the more than 45 volunteers, who staffed, set up, organized, and packed up the book fair. What an amazing group of people! Be sure and ask our librarians, Ginny and Linda, about the many new books that they are now able to get for the library thanks to your generosity. See you all again for the spring all school book fair.

NEED NEW SOLUTIONS TO STUDENT MISBEHAVIOR?  CHECK OUT POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

We believe that discipline in diverse schools and classrooms depends upon relationship, respect, and communicating caring and firmness at the same time. Positive Discipline is an approach to working with young people that effectively engages students in learning how to take responsibility for their own behavior and how to effectively solve problems.

Participants will learn "the basics" of Positive Discipline and will acquire many tools with which to implement this approach at school and at home. The course is taught experientially so that there is time to practice new tools. The course is appropriate for K-12 teachers, administrators, counselors, paraprofessionals and youth development program providers.

The course is taught by Terry Chadsey, Certified Positive Discipline Associate. He has worked in public schools for 30 years as a teacher and administrator.
