Community Meeting Statements

Small group themes
What sparks
for you about the statements?
What are
you curious about?
What
resonates for you?
1.
Evolved, continued communication… putting it into action.
Book of information is great!
2.
12 people some involved, some not… all jumped in. I’ve
always wondered how to do it… now I know I can just call them.
3.
All really exciting! Thank you.
4.
Like the idea of communication… the consolidation of
information will help to connect people.
5.
Curious to learn more about the process – how do the Wisdom
Council events relate to one another?
6.
Excited about the resurrection of the communications
committee!
7.
Surprised at how one weekend of energy has resulted in so
many people getting active.
8.
The means is just as important as the ends… the process
mattered and built community.
9.
Concerned about electronic versus people contact… There’s a
risk that because it’s written down, it’s less fluid and could cut us off from
one another. Asking someone for information connects us.
10.
The value of institutional knowledge… as the community
changes, so does the knowledge. These suggestions help to maintain continuity.
11.
Echo what makes us alternative. Our events reflect this and
build community.
12.
Whoever shows up needed to be there.
13.
Vision – confused, need clarification about who develops and
delivers it? How? How do we communicate it?
14.
This is a starting point.
15.
Staying student-centered is key.
16.
Frustrations with the process – no teacher involvement, no
student involvement, maybe the Salmon Bay Way isn’t that different.
17.
The Salmon Bay Way holds us back because it’s not defined…
There’s a sense that if you don’t fit in, you are out! Recommend looking at
other alternative schools in Seattle, such as AE2 where they practice
“expeditionary learning,” and developing a sense of plurality, especially
around people having ideas and being able to implement them.
18.
We are all FOSBE! And, it doesn’t cost to participate.
19.
All participants were excited!
20.
Curious about what happens next.
21.
Pleased and excited about the communications work.
22.
The community conversation needs to include teachers,
administrators, and staff!
